It was such a hard pill to swallow when the first time I heard that my partner has schizophrenia. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, I decided to become an active part of his support system. Now, after many years together, I know that there are certain things that have been helpful in supporting my partner and helping him live well with schizophrenia. Though you might think that your partner should be the one to take all the love, instead, be sure that you also love yourself. Arm Up With the Right Education
Let’s face it. We have nothing sort of near-perfect understanding of schizophrenia. We can read a lot, but applying it in real life is hard. Hence, arm yourself with the right knowledge on how to support someone who has schizophrenia. Pay attention to what your partner says and figure out ways of understanding them better. Read up as much information as possible about the condition and talk to others with schizophrenia or the experts.
Be Patient and Empathetic
